William Jefferson Sentenced

William Jefferson Sentenced — It is astonishing for some to learn about the news of sentencing of former Rep. William Jefferson as being convicted on corruption charges. But it should be believable and Justice is literally blind and judges all without any discrimination.

Rep. William Jefferson is from Louisiana who is sentenced to serve 13 years in prison by Judge T.S. Ellis III in a courtroom in Alexandria, Virginia. He represented the New Orleans in the Congress. He was also the first sitting Congressman who was charged with bribery, fraud, and money laundering along with racketeering. He was also charged for violation of the Foreign Corruption Practices Act. The Rep. William was said to have tried to bribe the then vice-president of Nigeria and an amount of nearly $ 90,000 was recovered from his home freezer by the federal agents who raided his home.

The judge while imposing the sentence used quite tough words and termed Jefferson’s conduct as “a cancer on the body politics”. Despite the tougher words from the judge Jefferson declined to make any comment at his sentence under the advice of his attorney.

Jefferson’s attorney himself went to comment that recommendations of sentences did not take the picture as whole and ignored the life and

accomplishments of Jefferson. Despite the attorney’s statement about the sentencing, the jury’s stance reflects the gravity of the offence.

Moral of the story to remember, do not give bribes; and if necessary, do not hide them in the freezer of your home.
