West Memphis 3
After the authorities discovered these bodies in West Memphis Arkansas, Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley Jr. were convicted of these murders and they were dubbed West Memphis 3. Jessie Misskelley Jr. was sentence to life behind bars. Jason Baldwin was also given life imprisonment. Damien Echols was convicted and he was put on death row.
The recent developments that include eyewitness affidavits and most importantly DNA evidence have given a new twist to the case even after one and half decade.
One of the parents of three killed boys Mrs. Hobbs has commented that she believed in American justice system and time heals every wound. She has also given her side to defense by adding that West Memphis 3 should be given a new trial. One of the parents of three victims has pleaded that people must think of the state in which we as parents go again and again.
An article from Arkansas Law Review states that keeping in view the DNA evidence found in 2007 West Memphis 3, case must get a new trial. The defense stands firmly on its stance of innocence of the West Memphis 3 and wants a new trial. Prosecution says that West Memphis 3 were part of a satanic cult that requires your victims be punctured and punctures and other cut marks on the bodies of the victims were a part of rituals of this satanic cult. Some forensic specialists gave their opinion that these punctures and cuts might be part of animal biting.
The case was the inspiration for two documentaries from HBO, Paradise Lost and Paradise Lost 2.
