A West Babylon school is burned down by fire.

An elementary school in West Babylon is burnt down by a fire which erupted on Thursday night around 10 pm. The fire which originated in the school’s boiler room destroyed the campus building and has forced the schools administration to shift the students in five other West Babylon schools after the winter break. The West Babylon school superintendent Anthony Cacciola, who was also present at the scene, said that the fire was ‘pretty bad’.

According to the details, the firefighters were alerted through a fire alarm when the fire blazes engulfed the old building of the West Babylon school. The West Babylon fire department chief says that the fire apparently started in the boiler room and then quickly spread to other parts of the building. The West Babylon fire department chief says that the fire has destroyed two out of three wings of the school. The firefighters tried to extinguish the fire all night. At least 16 fire departments responded to the West Babylon school fire. The fire was strong and reportedly it caused injuries to some firefighters too. No civilian injuries have been reported though.

The South Bay Elementary School is located at 160 Great East Neck Road. More than 400 students are currently enrolled at this West Babylon elementary school which provides classes from Kindergarten level to grade five. The school was closed this week for winter break.
