Time Square New Years Eve 2010
NYPD had an elaborate security plan in place to make Time Square safe at 2010 New Years Eve.
All traffic was stopped as people gathered to watch the ball start descending one minute before 12:00 in the midnight.
It was suspected that terrorist would take advantage of the fact that all security is focused at Time Square. Adequate security was deployed at JFK and La Guardia Air ports.
The recent terroristic activity involving a plot to blow an airliner prompted a full air surveillance of the Manhattan by helicopters on New Years Eve.
Police officers deployed at Time Square were fully equipped with detectors to spot any suspicious activity. The visitors were not allowed to bring heavy backpacks to the area and most of all Alcohol was not allowed.
The special attraction of the event – crystal ball was shining with LED lights. Waterford Crystals were joined to display a special pattern known as “Let There Be Courage”. The formation has previously been used to honor the troops coming home from war front or highlight the efforts against HIV/AIDS.
The celebrations were expected to result in 40 tonnes of left over cans, hats and other debris at the point.
Special arrangements were in place to clean the area after the visitors have left the Time Square.
The only thing that that dimmed the festivities was bad weather which won’t allow people to witness Blue Moon on Time Square as Crystal Ball dropped.
