According to recent reports authorities of Solomon Islands said that, there are no reports of widespread damages or injuries currently.
It has been reported by U.S. Geological Survey that the quakes were centred 105 kilometres south-southeast of Gizo, second largest town of the islands and the depth for the quakes was 30.5 kilometres beneath the ocean floor.
The shaking and trembling started at about 08:45 A.M when several small quakes hit 89-90 kilometres south-southeast of 2nd largest town of the Solomon Islands “Gizo” and the largest earthquake recorded was of 7.2 magnitudes.
The second largest town of Solomon Islamds “Gizo” was badly damaged back in 2007 when an earthquake of 8.1 magnitudes rocked the Islands sending a tsunami. The tsunami claimed over 50 local live.
Officials for the Solomon Islands have said that a small tsunami has been reported right after the earthquake, but they have not confirmed the reports of the damages.
The NDM “National Disaster Management” for Solomon Islands has issued a warning in which they have warned the local residents to be on high alert for a possible high tide.
Solomon Islands Police is on the move to check for landslides that was being triggered due to the quakes.
The Solomon Islands are situated on the “Ring of Fire”. The arch stretches around the Pacific Rim and produces over 90% of the world’s earthquakes.
