When the axial tilt of earth goes farthest away from sun, maximum at 23° 26’, it occurs Winter Solstice. Winter Solstice has its seasonal significance for the turnaround of the gradual expansion of nights and shortening of days.

The people who are living in the low latitude almost between the tropic centers and the Tropic of Capricorn find out that this Winter Solstice is the shortest day of the year. Mostly the winter solstice occurs on December 22 but this year it came a day before.

While In the Northern Hemisphere, when the sun comes directly above the Tropic of Capricorn, with the latitude of 23.5 degree south of the equator, it occurs the winter solstice.
