Shani Davis Wins Gold
Shani Davis gives two thumbs up to his spectators, a gesture of multiple interpretations, a pair of medals including one from his countryman Chad Hedrick with bronze or that could be his second consecutive gold medal in Olympic history, it might also mean having one under his chest and ready for second while remain cling to his double gold medal quest at Vancouver 2010.
Shani Davis, the Chicago native, was at fifth place after 600 meters, but he tore through the final lap of the race to claim gold in 1 minute, and 08.94 seconds, thus becoming the first man in the history of Olympics to win 1000 twice. Four years back at Torino-Italy, he was the first black to win individual gold in winter sports.
After his victory, Shani Davis exclaimed that it was his moment, his party and he has had every reason to celebrate, to dance because he has earned it.
Shani Davis was about two-tenth of a second faster than Mo Tae-Bum from South Korea who won silver with 1 minute and 9.32 seconds. Chad Hedrick was third to claim bronze with 1:09:32.
Shani Davis shared his excitement by adding that it makes you more excited when you find two Americans up at the podium to claim medals in the same game.
Both Americans are now considered favorite for 1500 meter on Sunday. Hedrick was the first to congratulate his rival by a friendly pat on his back.
Shani and Chad would be the focus of media attention on Sunday as Americans are hoping these two stars of the nation on the podium once again on Sunday.
