Senate Passes Health Care Reforms

Senate passes the historic health care reforms with a majority of 60 votes to 39 and if the bill finally becomes a law, Obama Administration would always be remembered for the health care reforms.

There are many proposed alterations in the existing system that would change the face of Health Care in the country forever. First and biggest proposed reform is to provide every U.S citizen with the health care umbrella.

Moreover the insurance companies would no longer be able to refuse medical insurance to the citizens who already have some medical conditions. Each and every clause of the legislation has been heatedly debated since President Obama took office. Commenting on the victory President Obama said that the reforms would mark the first significant step towards social laws since 1930.

The passage of the bill from the Senate is definitely a big achievement for Democrats; however the bill still has to be settled with the House of Representatives’ version. The settlement process is expected to kick off in January.

Much hard work needs to be pitched in to transform the bill into a law and there is always a danger of some senator changing his mind on the legislature at the last moment.

President Obama sounded very optimistic and viewed that the historic moment, when the bill would be a law is in sight. Democrats regarded the passage of the bill as the victory of the people of United States; however they warned that much is still needed to be done.

One of the differences between the two versions of the bills is that the bill which House of Representatives passed includes a clause giving public the option, and most importantly the versions need to be reconciled on the payment for the reform.

U.S’s total expenditure on health care in 2007 was whoooping $2.2 Trillion. The reforms are expected to bring this figure down. Republicans, however are not impressed, they view that the expected savings may never happen.
