Roberta Flack
Flack changed her major while studying at University, from piano to voice that earned her the status of assistant conductor for the Howard University choir.
Roberta Flack started teaching at different schools in D.C area soon after completing her graduation from Howard, she also started to give piano lessons at her home to earn some extra money.
Roberta Flack started her professional career when she accompanied different Opera singers on piano, She also use to sing blues, pop and folk in the back room of Tivoli nightclub in Washington D.C area during admission.
An audition was arranged for her by Les McCann “piano player” after noticing her voice at a beneficiary concert with Atlantic Records. Her first album came in the market under the same label in 1969. The interesting thing about Roberta Flack’s first album “First Take” was that she recorded the album in less than 10 hours, but the record came into the limelight after Clint Eastwood used one of her songs “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” in his movie “Play Misty for Me” back in 1972.
The four time Grammy winner Roberta Flack performed a duet with Grammy nominee Maxwell for the Awards yesterday on Sunday.
