Pete Sheppard
The well known sports powerhouse, WEEI, has terminated its agreement with Pete Sheppard. The co-host of “Big Show” Pete Sheppard has been fired and reasoned as another victim of the economic storm that has devastated the media business.
After Tuesday’s show, the programming director of WEEI Jason Wolfe asked him to come to the conference room. He joined Wolfe in conference room and was feeling “Something was up” when VP Julie Kahn walked in. Then they both told Pete “It was the hardest decision we ever have to make for any employee” and axed him.
On this premature termination Pete Sheppard said “Anybody who’s ever seen ‘Broadcast News’ knows the nature of this business but anyhow it was great being the No. 2 guy on the No. 1 show”.
He also added that the untimely end of his contract at the station has been touching and tearful. But the station responded in a more practical way saying, it was just because of the tough economic circumstances.
His co-host on the “Big Show” said to comfort his friend “Obviously, you can’t be pleased when you lose an element to your show”, and I think what else he can do…!
Pete Sheppard, after his time at CSB, continued to the “Big Show” of WEEI in 1999-2010. He had an agreement for hosting the show till 2011, which was terminated by WEEI last week. Challenging Economic Conditions are told as the reasons of this early termination.
