Paul Warner Powell executed in an electric chair

Paul Warner Powell was executed last night in Virginia after he lost all his appeals. He was charged for attempted rape and murder of 16-year old Stacie Reed.

Powell was also earlier charged for rape and attempted murder of Stacie’s 14-year old sister Kristie. Kristie survived the assault and later testified in the court.

Paul Warner Powell was electrocuted in a 102-year old oak arm chair at the Greensville Correctional Center in Jarratt, Va. He was pronounced dead at around 9:09 pm.

In his last requests Powell, aged 31, asked to be allowed to have a last meal with his family but also requested that it shouldn’t be made public. He thus spent his last hours meeting his family members and his attorneys.

Powell had been on a death row for more than a decade now as his initial death sentence was overturned by the court. Powell thought that he had now evaded the death sentence so he wrote a letter to the prosecutor in which he boasted about the whole incident on the day of Stacie’s murder.

The murder dates back to the year 1999, when Powell used to work as a pharmacist. His 16-year old friend Stacie was dating a black guy at that time which really annoyed Powell.

So one day Powell arrived at Reed family’s Yorkshire home and since Stacie was alone at home he decided to get naughty with her. After forceful resistance from Stacie, Powell pulled out a knife and stabbed her in the chest. He then slit her throat and then tried to repeat the same act with Stacie’s 14-year old sister Kristie when she returned home but Kristie survived and testified in the court.

I hope after Powell’s execution some peace tranquility returns to the Reeds house.
