Mirai Nagasu
Mirai Nagasu, who has won the U.S. title in 2008 when she was just 14, has wooed the audience as well as judges with her electrifying performance on Saturday night. Her figure skating on Saturday night was seemingly flawless, but during her triple jumps she did receive few downgrades. The downgrades cost her penalties of 10 points. The audience was surprised when her score was announced, as her score was not as good as her performance was. The audience and even an announcer expressed his disappointment. But the good news is that Mirai Nagasu, 16, has secured a slot for herself in the Olympics games, Vancouver, where she will represent team U.S. along with 17-year-old Rachael Flatt. After her artful performance on Saturday night, Mirai Nagasu said in an interview that she hopes that she and her team mates could represent U.S. well in the Winter Olympics event which is going to be held in February.
Mirai Nagasu, a California-native, has won the 2008 U.S. Championship. She received Michael Weiss Foundation scholarship, which is given to promising young figure skaters. She is a graduate of FootHills Middle School and is now-a-days attending an online high school. Mirai Nagasu has always represented United States, but she has dual citizenship. Before her 22nd birthday, Mirai Nagasu will have to choose which citizenship she wants to keep.
Mirai Nagasu is the second figure skater who has won both junior and senior championships. Currently, Mirai Nagasu has been coached by Frank Carroll. Lori Nichol has been working with her as her choreographer.
