Milwaukee School Closings

As the snowstorm continues to unleash its fury on Southeast Wisconsin with its center being Milwaukee, majority of the schools in the county and nearby counties have decided to finally bow before the snowstorm and temporarily shut down the schools.

Earlier the authorities in Milwaukee had reaffirmed that schools and day-to-day businesses would go about their ordinary routines though a lot of transportation issues were definitely expected. But after the continuous pouring down of snow the authorities have been forced to reconsider their decision.

The Milwaukee Public Schools spokeswoman Roseann St Aubin was reported on Monday as saying, “We are going to have classes and also pressed on the school employees to resume to work but added the conditions would be monitored throughout the day and a decision regarding shutting down of the schools would be made if the conditions deteriorated.

The school officials in the counties of Racine, Kenosha and West Bend had already chosen to keep the school closed for at least a couple of days while Waukesha, like Milwaukee, decided to remain open. But they too were feeling compelled to revise their decision. Todd Gray, Waukesha Schools Superintendent, said, ‘When we made a decision, it was 5:00 a.m., and looking not too bad.”

The second snowstorm is well on schedule and is expected to bring another foot of snow with itself. Craig Koplien, Storm Team 4Caster, has predicted a steady snowfall with high winds and has put its range between 10” and 14” by tomorrow.

The snow will come heavy on working parents, who would have to stay home babysitting kids, and bus contractors as their work would be suspended as long as the schools remain closed.
