Middletown, CT was rocked yesterday when a deadly blast hit a gas power plant, Kleen Energy Systems. The blast, which occurred yesterday around 11 in the morning, sent a shockwave across the town and neighboring counties of Middletown, CT. At least five people were killed and a dozen were reported injured.

The massive blast which occurred at 11:25 am caused serious damages and life losses. Kleen Energy Systems is a natural gas-run power plant which is built in a bare industrial area near the bank of Connecticut River. It was reported that at least 100 workers were inside the premises of Kleen Energy Power Plant when the blast occurred.
Four pipefitters, who were working near the main generator, were killed immediately after the blast occurred. So far five deaths have been confirmed while 12 were injured. Rescue teams arrived at the scene immediately when the blast was reported. Firefighters reported huge flames rising from the building. The injured people were airlifted through helicopter and sent to hospital for medical help. Rescue workers are searching for the missing people inside the power plant. According to the Middletown fire department, the rescue teams are still combing through Kleen Energy power plant to find the trapped workers. A spokesperson for the Middletown fire department says that they do not have a list of workers who were inside the building at the time blast occurred. He further said that the debris has piled up as high as 10 ft. and that the rescue teams are searching through it. Special dogs have been brought in from Massachusetts to assist the search, said that spokesperson for Middletown Fire Department.

It is being said that the blast which occurred at Kleen Energy Systems on Sunday was caused by a flame device, most probably a propane heater. Federal officials say that they do not believe that any terrorist act is involved in the Kleen Energy blast. The investigation will begin on Monday at 7 am local time and it is said that all the workers inside the building will be held accounted for the blast. The word is coming in that federal officials are trying to determine whether the blast at Kleen Energy Systems was caused due to purging. It has been reported in previous similar incidents across the northern America that some plant operators attempted to remove existing gas from the gas pipelines, the process is known as purging.
The blast at Kleen Energy Systems, Middletown, CT could be listed in one of the most fatal industrial accidents of America.
