Karachi Blast

Karachi Blast claimed the lives of over 30 mourners of Ashura procession. It has been reported that over 80 were injured in Karachi Blast, several of them are in serious condition in different hospitals of the biggest city of Pakistan.

The powerful blast which occurred on M.A Jinnah Road today on Monday ripped through the Karachi’s main 10 Muharram procession.

The blast that struck Karachi’s main Ashura procession was a suicide bomb attack, which occurred near Tobet Centre, killing over 30 people and wounding more than 80 mourners.

Thousands of Shia Muslims mourners commemorating the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussain, the nephew of Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) gathered in Nishtar Park, Karachi, from where they marched down the M.A Jinnah Road, as the procession reached near Tibet Centre situated on M.A Jinnah Road, a powerful suicide bomb blast struck the procession.

After the blast struck the procession, stampede and panic struck the participants, on the other hand unknown armed men also fired shots on the procession increasing the panic to the fullest. Karachi Blast broke out fire in the nearby buildings and in vehicles, thick smoke can be seen in the sky from far distance.

According to the latest reports angry mob set fire in over 250 shops of Bolton Market situated on M.A Jinnah Road, while several vehicles parked around the area were also set on fire.

President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani condemned the blast in the main procession, in which Shia Muslims were commemorating the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussain, the nephew of Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH).

The leadership of Pakistan appealed masses to remain peaceful. They have also ordered authorities for a thorough investigation into the incident.
