January 22, 1901: The Queen Victoria of England died after reigning for 63 years. She was the longest reigning queen of England.

The British postal service stopped selling the stamps of Queen Victoria and started selling the King Edward VII postage stamps.

January 22, 1905: More than 500 workers were killed in a shooting by Czar’s troops in St. Petersburg. The day is remembered as ‘Bloody Sunday’ in the history.

January 22, 1918: Ukraine, previously a German puppet, proclaimed a free republic.

January 22, 1925: Albania proclaimed Republic under its president Achmed Zogu.

January 22, 1930: The mercury fell considerably low in Mount Carroll, Illinois. The temperature was recorded to be -37 degree Celsius, lowest temperature in the state till date.

January 22, 1946: The then U.S. president established the Central Intelligence Agency, CIA.

January 22, 1957: George P. Metesky, involved in more than 30 bomb plots and explosions and famously known as Mad Bomber, got arrested.

January 22, 1973: The U.S. Supreme Court legalized some cases of abortions in Roe Vs Wade.

January 22, 1997: The United States Senate declared Madeleine Albright as the first female secretary of state.


January 22, 2003: UN presents a report and declared no relationship between Iraq and terrorist group Al-Qayeda.

January 22, 2010: Conan O’Brien made his last appearance on NBC’s ‘The Tonight Show’ as a host. (After a much-hyped battle and increasing protests of CoCo’s fans on Internet, it will be unjust if we forget to mention this event).
