Medtronic Inc. reveals its plans to buy Invatec, a company which produces and distributes stents to treat clogged arteries.
Invatec is a developer of stents which are used to treat peripheral vascular diseases such as clogged arteries outside human brain and heart. Invatec has been making and distributing products to treat cardiovascular medical complications.
Medtronic tells that it is going to buy Invatec and two of its affiliates. The company says that the two affiliates include Fogazzi and Krauth Cardiovascular. Fogazzi provides technological assistance to Invatec while Krauth Cardiovascular helps distributing Invatec products in Germany.
Medtronic Inc says that it has signed a mutual agreement with Invatec according to which Medtronic is liable to pay $350 million to Invatec initially and another installment of $150 million if Invatec accomplishes certain performance goals.
In a statement released by Medtronic’s senior vice president he says that acquiring Invatec would help them grow their business fast.
Analysts say that Medtronic’s deal with Invatec would result in positive growth of the company. The peripheral vascular market has huge potential of growth and such collaboration with Invatec would help Medtronic to increase their market value. The peripheral vascular business is a $ 10 billion market and it is growing at an annual rate of 10%.
With the acquisition of Invatec, Medtronic’s stock value will also increase. On /Monday the company was trading at $43.52.
