Huguette Clark- His act of charity got wings

Huguette Clark- His act of charity got wings when in 1928 he agreed to donate $ 50000 to excavate the pond across Clark Estate into a fresh water lake. The wife of Huguette M. Clark suggested that the artificial freshwater lake would be named after Andree Clark her deceased sister as Andree Clark Bird Refuge. Both Ms Clark sisters were the daughters of Copper magnate William A. Clark.

The Clarks did not end the donation to just $ 50000 but they donated more in 1930 to complete the model of the lake according to the recommendations of Ralph Stevens.

The magnificent house across the lake at the top of the hill was owned by descendants of William Clark. The magnificent estate is none in comparison with the house in which William A Clark was residing and it happened that after his death that house was razed to ground three years after the death of the Copper Magnate. It was allegedly called a symbol of scandal and even a joke. The mansion was not seen with appreciation by decent population as they considered it an affront to themselves.

May the freshwater lake be a mean of redemption for the William A Clark that his heirs felt should be there to leave his name in at least one good way?

The man who left behind him Clark County is remembered not for his railroad achievements but for buying a seat in the senate. The man who was born in a log cabin left behind him America’s most incredible mansion and he has had collection of world’s important paintings.
