Egbert Rimkus

The human remains found in the Death Valley National Park, California, Nevada could be of German tourist Egbert Rimkus, 34 who vanished in the valley on 22nd July 1996. The German tourist had a ten years old son, Georg Weber with him. They were accompanied by Comelia Meyer, 27 with her four years old son, Max. The remains were discovered by two search and rescue workers of the Riverside County.

Carma Roper, the spokeswoman for Inyo County’s sheriff iterated that they believe that remains were of those long missing persons, referring to the party of Egbert Rimkus. She further added that a criminal investigation pattern is being followed and they have not found any evidence of criminal act at this moment. She also iterated that they are well aware of the magnitude of time, energy and emotions that are involved in this case.

Egbert Rimkus and his party arrived in United States in the early days of July 1996. They stayed in a hotel room of Las Vegas on July 22 and checked out on the same day. It is pertinent to add here that temperatures exceeded 120 degrees in that week of July.

An exhaustive search was made but with no success till yesterday when the remains were discovered. It is now hoped that a thirteen years old case of disappearance would come to its natural end.

The Death Valley is considered hottest, driest and lowest land of about 3 million acres of barren and feral land. It observes a sunny, dry and clear weather throughout the year. The rainfall is about 2 inches a year.
