DC Homicides Hit a 43 years low is the latest news. It has been reported by ABC7 News, WJZ13 and Fox News that Washington DC has hit the 43 year low homicides record.

According to the DC Police, United States Capital recorded only 143 homicides in the year 2009, the lowest since 1966.

D.C Police have hoped to hit the 42 year old record when there was only 132 homicides in the Nation’s Capital, but three homicides occurred on the New Year’s Eve, increasing the numbers to 143.

According to the news there is a 23% drop in the homicide total since 2008, while several other U.S cities have also saw lower homicide rates in 2009. It has been reported by Federal Buru of Investigations “FBI” that there is a 10% decrease overall in the first half of year 2009.

Cathy Lanier the police chief said that the reduction in Homicides can be attributed in parts to better use of latest technology, community help and intelligence-driven police patrolling while focusing on repeat violent offenders.

She also gave credit to detectives and partners in other law & Enforcement agencies for the decreased rate.

Other then DC Homicides Hit a 43 years low, other parts of the country showed promising rates. There were only 100 killings in Prince George’s Country in the year 2009, whereas in the previous year 2008 there were 135 slayings.

Prince George Country’s lowest in nine years. Other area such as Montgomery, where 13 killing were recorded while in Fairfax County only 11 slayings occurred were among the areas those showed promising low numbers in homicide.
