Colossal Squid
Colossal Squid, or Giant Cranch Squid or the Antarctic Squid is the largest known invertebrate on planet earth. Colossal Squid is the largest squid species. Colossal Squid has the largest eyes on planet. Doesn’t seem considerable to people who searches beauty in women’s eyes. Colossal Squid could be of 14 meters according to current estimates. But what are Colossal Squid?
Squids are one of the groups of marine inhabitants which are used as food in Korea and Italy. You may find it in cuisines. These squids have their own value as a part of popular cuisines.
Enormous Squid (Mesonychoteuthis hamiltoni), like many of other animal kingdom has its zoological name roots in Greek where mesos means middle, nuchus means claw and teuthis means squid. Colossal Squid is the only living member of the genus Mesonychoteuthis.
Unlike other large squids these gigantic squids has not only suckers but swivel and three pointed sharp hooks. It possesses longer mantle than the Giant Squids and its body is wider and stout. Colossal Squid live up to the depth of 2200 m, whereas their off springs go as deep as 1000 m.
Being an inhabitant of deep waters these aliphatic Squid displays abyssal gigantism, a phenomenon which makes them display a bigger size than the original. A little is known abut this aqua creature. These are believed to be preying using bioluminescence.
The squids are found in the whole Southern Ocean, from north of Antarctic to south of South America, to the end point of New Zealand.
