Chemical Ali Hanged

Chemical Ali Hanged and Baghdad was left with suicide bomb attacks near three of the hotels that were popular abode of western people. The blasts caused at least 36 people dead and many injured.

The suicide attacks occur shortly before Baghdad TV announced the execution of the man who was once a favorite cousin of Saddam Hussein and was notoriously known as Chemical Ali. Chemical Ali was accused of crime against humanity and he was sentenced to death for his alleged use of chemical gases against Kurds in 1988 that left thousands of Kurds dead and earned the man infamous name Chemical Ali.

Chemical Ali’s name was Hassan Al Majid and he was one of the aides who played their vital role to prolong the tyrannical Saddam rule. He was considered one of most brutal members of Saddam’s favorite circle. Chemical Ali enjoyed the striking resemblance with Saddam Hussein

The spokesperson of Iraqi government Ali al Dabbagh said that Hassan al Majid was hanged for crime against humanity and death sentence against him is carried out.

Chemical Ali received death sentence for four times and it was almost a week later when he received his fourth death sentence that he was hanged.] He was one of last high profile official of the Saddam regime who was under trial in Iraq including Tariq Aziz who suffered a stroke few days back.

The suicide bomb attacks could be a possible retaliation from the insurgents in response to the execution of Chemical Ali.
