Bay Area Earthquake

Bay Area residents felt very light tremors at about 10:00 a.m. The epicenter of the earthquake has been estimated near San Jose (See the USGS, and a digitally enhanced map below).

It is to be noted that Bay Area and California are subject to numerous earthquakes. The trembling was enough to spark a flurry of micro messages at social networking utilities. People were tweeting about the earthquake just 30 seconds after the first tremor.

USGS is analyzing the data and full details are still not available, however the earthquake is estimated to be of 4.0 magnitude on the Richter scale. Facebook displayed many status updates by the people who have felt the quake. The Bay Area often receive jolts ranging from 2 ~ 4 on the Richter Scale. These tremors are often so light that they are almost imperceptible.

There are messages from the people living in the area who haven’t felt anything at all and denied any such the news that the earthquake hit the area.

Apparently the Bay Area Earthquake was originated from deep resulting in no damage. U.S Geological survey has elaborate plans to super impose tweets about the earthquake and its own data to exactly judge the impact of the earthquake and the area effected. USGS revealed that it is a developing a system that would locate the word ‘Earthquake’ in different languages to better understand the earthquake activity.

The primary reason for employing such a system is the fact that tweets often precede the official releases by USGS.
