The nominations were announced by Anne Hathaway who was joined in by the president of Academy Awards, Mr. Tom Sherak, at the ceremony. Nominations for 10 categories of Academy Awards 2010 were revealed. There are 24 award categories in total.

Jeff Bridges for Crazy Heart, Morgan Freeman for Invictus, George Clooney for Up in the Air, Jeremy Renner for The Hurt Locker, and Colin Firth for A Single Man was nominated for the category of Best Actor.

Meryl Streep for Julie & Julia, Helen Mirren for The Last Station, Carey Mulligan for An Education, Sandra Bullock for The Blind Side, and Gabourey Sidibe for Precious were nominated for the Best Actress award.

James Cameron has been nominated for Avatar (Duh!). Other nominations include his former wife Kathryn Bigelow for The Hurt Locker, Quentin Tarantino for Inglorious Bastards (Yayyyyy!), Jason Reitman for Up in the Air, and Lee Daniels for the movie Precious.

At Academy Awards 2010, ten movies have been nominated for the award category of Best Picture. Usually, only five pictures are nominated. It is being done for the first time at Academy Awards since 1940. The movies up for the ‘Best Picture’ Oscar of 2010 include Avatar, District 9, An Education, Inglorious Bastards, Up in the Air, The Blind Side, A Single Man, Precious, and Up.
