11 Year Old Gives Birth
An 11-year-old girl gives birth to a child in Northeast Hospital. The girl’s mother says that both the mother and the child are healthy and doing well. The name of the 11-year-old mother has not been released to protect her privacy.
Though very surprising, it wasn’t the first time that an 11-year-old girl gave birth to a child. In November 2009, an 11-year-old girl named Kordeza Zhelyazkova gave birth to a child on her wedding day. She was wearing her wedding dress and the tiara when she broke her water and was rushed to the hospital. Kordeza got pregnant two weeks before her 11th birthday. Her husband was 19. Both these 11-year-old mothers are now one of the youngest mothers of the world.
Potential Health Dangers for Young Mothers
Many leading obstetricians have commented about young pregnancies and births and have called them high-risk. A leading obstetrician commented on the incident and says that it could cause medical complication for the young mother. He said that an 11-year-old girl’s body’s is not strong enough to carry a child. Her bones are weak and her body is not developed enough to carry a child and to give birth to it. He further said that when an 11-year-old girl gives birth to child, it could harm her vagina in case of a natural birth. According to him, when an 11-year-old carries child in her womb the size of the child is usually compromised. More importantly, the medical text books do not tell any information on how to deal with an 11-year-old patient when she gives birth to a child.
The 11-year-old mother is not mature enough to take care of her child which can further cause more complications.
